Glossary Term: BSC Agent
The term BSC Agent refers to an organization or entity appointed to perform specific functions under the Balancing and Settlement Code (BSC). BSC Agents are responsible for collecting and aggregating data related to electricity generation and consumption.
Elexon cannot fulfil these roles unless permitted via the Gas and Electricity Markets Authority. By contracting out BSC Agent functions, Elexon works to ensure they are managed against agreed service levels.
Elexon procures BSC Agent services, enters into and manages contracts with approved BSC Agents and monitors their performance. Service Descriptions specify the services to be provided, the required levels of performance and the Agent’s liability if it fails to achieve these levels.
BSC Agents provide services that helps the running of the BSC and include services such as the Balancing Mechanism Reporting Agent (BMRA), Central Data Collection Agent (CDCA) and Funds Administration Agent (FAA). Imbalance Settlement systems and agents are used in the Imbalance Settlement process.
