Market-wide Half-Hourly Settlement

Programme status: Central Systems now live; Suppliers transitioning meters from 22 October 2025

Half-Hourly Settlement (HHS) involves measuring and settling electricity consumption at half-hour intervals, and is used for businesses and consumers that have smart meters to record energy usage in more granular time frames, typically every 30 minutes.

The Market-wide Half-Hourly Settlement (MHHS) programme is being run by Elexon to deliver Half-Hourly Settlement and is one of the biggest changes to energy markets since retail competition was introduced in the late 1990s.

Smart Data Repository

Programme status: In development – due to be complete end 2026

The Smart Data Repository will provide open, privacy‑protected access to aggregated smart meter data to support innovation, flexibility and decarbonisation across the energy system.

Find out how this new platform will make high‑quality half‑hourly consumption data available, helping suppliers, innovators and researchers develop smarter products and services for consumers.

Energy Price Guarantee scheme administration

Programme status: Administered EPG scheme from October 2022 until March 2024.

The Energy Price Guarantee (EPG) was a temporary government program that capped the price of gas and electricity for domestic customers in the UK to help reduce the impact of the energy crisis.

Elexon managed the Scheme Administrator for the Energy Price Guarantee covering domestic electricity consumers in Great Britain. As the Scheme Administrator Elexon managed the estimation of domestic consumption and associated payment arrangements to and from Suppliers that take part in the scheme.
