The designated Smart Secure Electricity Systems (SSES) Governance Framework Document has been published by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) and is now live on the Digital Code. We have also published our response to stakeholder feedback on the draft Governance Framework and Bilateral Agreement which was used to finalised these documents.<\/p>\n

What changes have been made? <\/div><\/h2>\n \n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\tThe changes we have made to the SSES Governance Framework document are minor and include:<\/p>\n
\n- clearer roles and responsibilities across the Technical Governance Group (TGG), Security Governance Group (SGG), BSC Panel and Elexon<\/li>\n
- simplified participant registration and voting process<\/li>\n
- improved and more transparent change process for SSES documents<\/li>\n
- clearer decision-making and escalation routes<\/li>\n
- better alignment with wider SSES regulations and future code reform.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

The Bilateral Agreement has been included as an annex within Part A of the Governance Framework.<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\t
\n\t\t Next steps <\/div><\/h2>\n \n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\tThe rules and obligations in the Governance Framework will be introduced in a phased approach. The two new governance groups, which become operational in September 2026, will drive SSES enduring governance. Many of the groups’ duties will be introduced during the SSES transition period, which runs from now until 2029.<\/p>\n
Nominations and elections<\/strong><\/p>\nThe next part of the SSES transition period is the governance groups nominations and elections process. The nomination window will be open from 1-26 June 2026.<\/p>\n
