Chair

Joanne Wade, Stakeholder Advisory Board ChairJoanne brings extensive and crucial experience in energy markets and governance, with over 30 years’ experience of strategy, policy research and evaluation.

Joanne currently holds a diverse portfolio of roles, including but not limited to serving as a Non-Executive Director at the Energy Saving Trust and as a Specialist Advisor for the House of Commons Energy Security and Net Zero Committee. Notable previous roles include Chief Strategic Advisor at the Association for Decentralised Energy (ADE) and Chair of the Advisory Board at the Centre for Research on Energy Demand Solutions.

Independent members

Robert Hull (deputy chair), Riverswan Energy AdvisoryBob is an independent consultant with over 30 years’ leadership experience in the energy and utility sectors. He previously held senior roles with Ofgem, National Grid, and KPMG. He has broad commercial, regulatory and strategic expertise and has led or advised on many business investments in the UK and worldwide. In 2017, he founded Riverswan Energy Advisory to advise energy and utility clients worldwide. He also holds several non-executive and board advisor roles.

Steve Crabb, SC ConsultingSteve is an independent chair and non-executive specialising in driving improvements in service for vulnerable customers in the energy and water industries in particular. He serves on the board of Smart Energy GB, is co-chair of the customer challenge group for SES Water and was formerly chair of Energy UK’s Vulnerability Commitment.

Members representing sellers

Claire Addison, FlexitricitySince 2019, Claire has been the Head of Regulation for Flexitricity. Claire also serves as a member of Northern Powergrid’s independent DSO Review Panel.

Iona Penman, OctopusAs an independent panel member for our Stakeholder Advisory Board, Iona’s focus is on consumer flexibility and specialising in policy and market design.

Nick Sillito, Sol Three LtdNick is currently a BSC Panel member as well as being a member of the Flexibility Stakeholder Advisory Board. He also sits on the Imbalance Settlement Group Committee (ISG).

Members representing buyers

Alex Howard, UKPNAlex leads the Flexibility Markets team at UK Power Networks DSO. His team has awarded 100s of MWs of flexibility contracts via long-term and day-ahead markets, publishing extensive data on requirements, contracts, and dispatches. Prior to joining UK Power Networks, Alex worked at Octopus Energy and at the software start up Origami Energy, where he was first exposed to wholesale market and National Energy System Operator’s (NESO) ancillary services. He has a degree in Computer Science.

Alex Munnery, Northern PowergridAlex comes with a background of over 10 years in the energy industry, including energy supply and infrastructure development. Since joining Northern Powergrid in 2024, he has led flexibility market development in the region and driven cross-sector initiatives to standardise and simplify flexibility markets.

Doerte Schneemann, National Grid Electricity DistributionDoerte heads up the Flexibility Markets Team at National Grid DSO. She previously worked in DESNZ where she led the ‘Markets for Flexibility’ Team for six years, driving reforms to ensure fair access to markets for low-carbon flexibility. Among other things, she led the development of the 2021 ‘Smart Systems and Flexibility Plan’ and oversaw the development and delivery of multiple flexibility-related innovation programmes. Doerte began her career at Ofgem, where she worked on network regulation and smart energy system policy.

Swetta Coopamah, BEAMASwetta brings a manufacturer and whole-system perspective through her role as Head of Smart Energy Systems at BEAMA. She draws on experience across clean heat policy, smart metering, Market-wide Half Hourly Settlement (MHHS), flexibility and data-enabled energy services. Swetta brings insight into how change affects manufacturers, consumers and the shift towards electrification. Representing clean heat, electric vehicle, battery storage technologies and energy management systems, she supports discussions on how flexibility can enable electrification in practice and has a focus on practical, deliverable, and consumer-focused outcomes.
