Nominations are now open for Smart Secure Electricity Systems (SSES) Technical Governance Group (TGG) and Security Governance Group (SGG) election candidates.  

What is the SSES Technical Governance Group

The new SSES TGG, which will operate from Autumn 2026, will bring together experts from across the energy sector to maintain a technical framework to support interoperability for Energy Smart Appliances (ESAs). This will include the management of the GB Interoperability Companion Specification currently being developed by the Government.  

The TGG will advise, inform, and support the Government and regulators on these requirements, enabling consumers in Great Britain to participate in flexible electricity services and save on their energy bills. 

Who can be nominated as a TGG candidate

We are seeking nominations for the following types of TGG member:  

  • three Energy Smart Appliance (ESA) Providers  
  • three Load Controllers / Flexibility Service Providers  
  • one Distribution Company .

What is the SSES Security Governance Group

The new SSES SGG, which will operate from Autumn 2026, will bring together experts from across the energy sector to protect consumers and their data, maintain trust and safeguard the system by managing cyber and system security risks. 

The SGG will advise the Government and regulators on the cyber security and system security arrangements needed to safely support consumer-led flexibility. 

Who can be nominated as an SGG candidate

We are seeking nominations for the following types of SGG member:  

  • six Load Controllers / Flexibility Service Providers 
  • three ESA Providers 
  • two Distribution Companies.

Elected SGG members should be prepared to undergo an appropriate level of security clearance. This clearance is subject to change depending on how the functions and activities of the SGG evolves.

How the nomination process works

SGG/TGG members will be appointed via election and must first be nominated as a candidate. This is an open nomination process which means: 

  • anyone can nominate someone as a TGG candidate 
  • self-nominations are allowed 
  • there is no limit to the number of individuals you can nominate 

Nominations are open until 17:00 on Friday 26 June 2026. Nominations submitted after this date will not be accepted. 

After receiving your nomination, we will contact the candidate to confirm they:

  1. are willing to be put forward for election as a TGG member  
  2. understand and acknowledge the duties and responsibilities of a TGG member, including that their appointment is subject to the satisfactory completion of paperwork relating to their impartiality, independence from their employer and confidentiality 
  3. possess the requisite skills and experience appropriate to fulfil the role of a member of the TGG 
  4. reasonably expect to have sufficient capacity to fulfil the role for the forthcoming two-year period (we estimate the role may require input of up to 25 days per year)
