There are three main stages to onboarding the DIP:
- onboarding the pre-production environment, where you will undergo qualification testing
- vetting – this requires registration on the GlobalSign Atlas platform
- promotion to the production environment (the live system), following successful qualification
Users must follow a fixed sequence of activities in the correct order to progress through all the stages.
You will need to repeat some onboarding activities when you are promoted to the production environment, for example creating your users.
You will not have to repeat the GlobalSign Atlas registration process.

Understanding the UIT environment
The UIT (User Integration Testing) environment is like a ‘mock’ version of the DIP. It allows users to become familiar with the DIP environment and its functionality. It introduces DIP users to certificates and registration of users / organisations.
The UIT environment is also used to set up the Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), which keeps the DIP secure and makes sure messages are valid. This setup depends on GlobalSign, a third-party provider. Once done, the results can be reused in the production (live) environment.
Vetting via GlobalSign Atlas
The GlobalSign Atlas registration and vetting process is a crucial part of onboarding. This step takes the most time because it uses a third party service and requires their process to be completed.

User roles and tasks
Each user role performs different tasks within the DIP. You need to understand these before you add any users for your organisation.
After onboarding
After you have successfully completed your onboarding, you should:
- read the DIP User Guides to understand the functions and features in detail
- ensure at least 2 each of User Admin, Certificate Admin and Message Admin are invited and joined the DIP to allow cover during holiday or absence situations
- remember that members can have multiple roles – use them according to your needs
