This page explains the steps you need to go through for your organisation to get set up to use the Data Integration Platform (DIP).
It follows a simple three step plan: setting up your account details, testing, and getting access to the live system.
The steps will vary slightly depending on your circumstances.
Before you start
We recommend you read the onboarding overview to understand the full process.
Before onboarding you will also need:
- your assigned Primary and Certificate Administrators details available
- your registered company name, the associated company number and a brief company description ready
- your DNS admin to be prepared and ready for the DNS activity
- your Certificate Admin, with the ability to manage through the conversion of certificates, on hand to assist
- for non-BSCCo/RECCo qualified parties, i.e. DCPs and MDRs, a signed DIP access agreement
- to familiarise yourself with the DIP Rules
Onboarding - all users
The following steps must be followed by all DIP users.
- Step 1: Accessing DIP and verifying company details
- Step 2: Managing your company’s users within DIP
- Step 3: Managing your GlobalSign account as part of DIP
- Step 4: Managing DIP certificates
- Step 5: Domain verification
- Step 6: Creating a Signing/mTLS certificate
- Step 7: Managing your DIP or DCP IDs
- Step 8: Managing your DIP Message Channels

Additional information by role
Discover how different Market Participants connect to the DIP, what certificates they need, how DIP Connection Providers support them, the routes for qualification (including SIT and Placing Full Reliance), guidance for organisations with multiple companies, and the specific onboarding and extension process for the Meter Data Retriever role.
Market Participants (MPs) are classified as either active or non-active. Active MPs are connecting to the DIP with their own technology and will require one dual purpose Digital Certificate per environment. A non-active MP will be utilising the service(s) of a single or multiple DIP Connection Provider(s) (DCP) to connect to the DIP and will require one single purpose signing Digital Certificate per environment.
If qualifying in System Integration Testing (SIT) or ‘Placing Full Reliance’
For Market Participants that qualify via the SIT or Placing Full Reliance routes, this guide has a full explanation of the specific process you will follow:
A DCP is a non-MHHS qualified role that supports MPs in connecting to the DIP. They are required to sign an Access Agreement to get onboard into the DIP.
Organisations qualifying with multiple companies should follow the GlobalSign platform guidance to manage onboarding effectively.
The MDR role falls outside the main centralised BSCCo/RECCo qualification and so must onboard the DIP via its own specific route. See this guide for an explanation of onboarding for the MDR role and extending MDR functionality:
