Market Participant Role Code’ is a single character alphanumeric value which is used as a unique identifier for certain Market Roles. There are 36 possible Role Codes to be allocated to different Market Participant Roles, which are defined in the Market Domain Data (MDD). In order for new Market Roles to be created in the future, a change to the format of the ‘Market Participant Role Code’ Data Item is required to increase the number of available Role Codes. Moving to a two-character alphanumeric value would provide hundreds of new potential Market Participant Role Codes.<\/p>\n\n\t<\/div>\n\n\t

Market-Wide Half Hourly Settlement Programme (MHHSP) Change Request CR041<\/a> ‘Change the format of Market Participant Role Code from Char(1) to Char(2)’ was raised to effect the change to MHHSP deliverables. CR041 was issued for industry consultation on 11 January 2024 with responses returned by 25 January 2024.<\/p>\n

The MHHSP’s Design Advisory Group (DAG) rejected CR041 at its meeting on 14 February 2024. Please refer to the CR041 Impact Assessment Report and the minutes of the February 2024 DAG for details.<\/p>\n

Consequently, BSCCo as the Proposer has withdrawn CP1589, as CP1589 could only have been progressed further if CR041 was approved. Originally the CP1589 Assessment Report was to be presented to the SVG at its meeting on 9 January 2024. However, an MHHS Change Request (CR) has been raised on 15 December 2023 and Elexon are seeking to get a decision on CP1589 from the SVG only once an impact assessment has been completed with MHHS.<\/p>\n

Therefore at the SVG meeting on 9 January 2024, Elexon provided  a verbal update only.<\/p>\n

CP1589 will now go for decision to the SVG following the Market-wide Half-Hourly Settlement (MHHS) decision for CR041 ‘Change the format of Market Participant Role Code from Char(1) to Char(2)’<\/a>.<\/p>\n

CR041’s Impact Assessment was issued on 10 January 2024 with responses due by 24 January 2024. 28 responses were received to this consultation, of which the majority agreed to the proposed solution. A verbal update was given at February’s SVG committee on 6 February 2024 to present the results of CR041’s Impact Assessment.<\/p>\n

CR041 will now go for decision at February’s MHHS Design Advisory Group (DAG) on 14 February 2024. CP1589 was issued for industry consultation on Monday 13 November 2023 with responses invited by 5pm on Friday 8 December 2023.  We are extending the CP1589 Consultation to 15 December 2023 to give market participants more time to consider additional consultation questions. <\/span><\/p>\n

In version 1.0 of the Consultation we reported that lower case letters could not be used. However, Electralink has confirmed that DTN file headers can accept a mixture of upper or lower case characters to differentiate between market participant role codes, so long as they are specified in the Market Domain Data (MDD). Therefore we have updated the consultation to reflect this information and gather views about the use of lower case letters.<\/p>\n

17 responses were received to the consultation, 5 of which were confidential. The majority of all responses agreed to the proposed solution of Char (2) for CP1589.
